Changing The World One Mind At A Time

Although the schools in Kenya are currently closed, we've been busy getting ready for when they reopen and some exciting things are happening.
Container 22,00 Books
We have been working on a project to ship a 40 foot container containing 22,000 books which will help about 350 schools in Kenya establish a library.
There are approximately 12,000 rural schools in Kenya that have little or no internet access. We are very close to our funding goal for the container project so please consider donating. We have identified the schools, have the books, and lined up the boots on the ground to make this happen but we need YOU!

How else can you help?
Donate Books: We need books, particularly World Book Encyclopedias printed 1980 or later. Time live nature & science books are also great. Books. The books need to be appropriate for elementary and early middle school students.
Bookshelf - We need 1 more bookshelves in our storage location.
Remote Location Shipping - Our storage site is located in Bluffton, SC. It may not be practical for you to get books to us. However, you can mail books from your post office directly to Kenya and we will reimburse you for the cost. Contact Roy Austin at libraries4kids.org or 843- 597-4826 for details.
Maritholey Primary School recently started with students from pre- primary to grade three. The head-teacher has zero learning materials and they borrow from the neighboring school which is about 6 kilometers away. In efforts to create a few learning tools with the locally available resources, the headteacher has organized for charts to be made out of sacks and yarn. The production of these charts is inexpensive and school stakeholder are able to help with the process. After the layout of the picture is drawn using a mark-pen, highlighting the rest with thread and color to make it stick is easier. While these charts are not durable in the long run, the teachers were happy to receive teaching materials. With more resources coming from Libraries for Kids Int’l, it will be an amazing boost for this institution and others like it. Africa Factoids
How big is Africa? - Africa is the second-largest continent in the world right behind Asia. Africa is almost twice the size of Russia and bigger than China, the United States, and Canada combined. The United States would fit inside the Sahara Desert. How big is Kenya? - Kenya is slightly smaller, 85.9%, the size of Texas.
PROGRESS REPORT
So far, LFK has shipped 968 books weighing 1,186 lbs touching the lives of students in 11 schools. This is just the beginning! With more than 30 schools on our waiting list, and some 12,000 rural schools in Kenya alone, we are just getting started.
COVID-19 pandemic has forced schools to remain shutdown and it has been difficult for the teachers in rural settings to help their students continue with learning considering the lack of resources like televisions, radios, electricity, computer or internet connection that supports e-learning. Please help these kids to the gift of knowledge by donating to this cause. You can donate on our website or GoFundMe Page.
